Here’s what happens every time I go to a DemoCamp – I take some notes about the presentations and then never get around to doing a writeup that basically translates the notes into a summary, and other people have usually already done that better and faster than I did anyway.
This time, a few quick thoughts:
- This was the first time that the demos were uniformly better than the Ignite presentations, which I normally love. The Ignites weren’t that bad, but they had that hit and miss quality that we normally get from the demo lineup, while the demos were all very solid.
- It was interesting to see so many funded applications this time around. I think that startups, school assignments, and personal projects can all “compete” in terms of quality of presentation, so it’s not necessarily a preference for future lineups, but I think it marked an interesting point in the history of DemoCamp.
- I finally made it out for drinks afterwards! The presentations are SO secondary to the socializing and networking.
- The Duke of Westminster is vast and cavernous and probably does well during the day due to lack of cell reception. We theorized that some kind of “deadspots.ca” website that mapped out the “ha ha you can’t find me” zones would do well.
Again, a kickass night, kudos to the organizers.
